K A J S A M T A L – Dances for MA
The Japanese name MA refers to both architecture and music, as well as to the respect people perform between
each other in Japanese society.
MA celebrates the space and the intervals necessary to constitute a whole, and is therefore an inherent element between physical components, or the silence between two notes of music.
I interpret it to also be the intervals between inhaling and exhaling.
Or that which happens in the space between heaven and earth.
And, in this case, the undefined space between things being done and memory. Which is now. Transparency.
I see the film as architectural anthropology.
K A J S A M T A L is a film that started as a meeting between me and my video camera, and the sculptural
construction of the Swedish artist Lars Kleen, at The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, 2006.
It was filmed in one long shot of 30 minutes and redefined in the editing.
The length of the film is 57 minutes 30 seconds.
Videogrammes from the film are printed on high quality fine art prints mounted on aluminum 78x63cm.
A catalogue/book with the videogramme. Limited edition.
K A J S A M T A L is also base material for several spacial installations and performances.
